Weight That WillNot Move

You Are Not Failing. Something Is Working Against You.

Weight That Will Not Move care at Zen Medicine Okeechobee

There is a version of weight loss advice that assumes the only variable is effort. It survives because it works for people whose metabolism is intact. When someone eats well, moves daily and still gains, the honest conclusion is not that they are lying. It is that something measurable is in the way, and insulin resistance, thyroid dysfunction and hormone imbalance are the three usual suspects.

Signals Worth Testing

  • Weight climbing on a diet that used to work
  • Fat concentrated around the abdomen
  • Intense hunger or cravings a couple of hours after eating
  • An energy crash in the early afternoon
  • Skin tags, or darkened skin in the folds of the neck and armpits
  • Fasting glucose creeping up year over year
  • Losing weight only to regain it faster than you lost it

What Gets Measured

Fasting insulin alongside fasting glucose, HbA1c, a full lipid panel, a complete thyroid panel, sex hormones, cortisol and inflammatory markers. Fasting insulin is the one most often omitted and frequently the most revealing, because it can be elevated for years while glucose and HbA1c still read as normal.

How It Gets Treated

The plan is built from the results. Insulin resistance changes what and when you eat and how you train. A slow thyroid gets treated as a thyroid problem. Hormone imbalance is corrected on its own terms. Where prescription support is clinically appropriate it is used and monitored, and body composition tracking makes sure what you are losing is fat rather than the muscle that keeps your metabolism running.

Common Questions

What is insulin resistance?

It is when cells stop responding well to insulin, so the body produces more of it to do the same job. Elevated insulin promotes fat storage and makes fat loss harder, and it can be present for years before blood sugar readings become abnormal.

Why can I not lose weight even though I eat well?

When a real effort produces no result, the usual explanations are insulin resistance, an underactive thyroid, hormone imbalance, chronic stress and poor sleep. All of them are measurable, which is why testing comes before the meal plan.

Do you prescribe weight loss medication?

Casey Thompson, APRN, prescribes where it is clinically appropriate and monitors patients throughout. Medication is one component of a plan that also addresses the metabolic cause.

How is this different from a commercial weight loss programme?

It starts with lab work and a licensed provider rather than a calorie target, and the plan is written against your results. Body composition is tracked so progress is measured in fat lost rather than weight lost.
