Stress & Burnout

Running On Empty Has A Chemistry.

Stress, Burnout & Adrenal Health care at Zen Medicine Okeechobee

Long-running stress is not only a feeling. It changes cortisol rhythm, and cortisol touches blood sugar, sleep, immune function, thyroid conversion and sex hormone production. That is why burnout so often arrives as a package: you are exhausted and wired at the same time, you sleep badly, you get sick easily, and your weight and mood both shift without a clear reason.

Signals Worth Testing

  • Exhausted through the day but wide awake at bedtime
  • Waking between two and four in the morning
  • Craving salt or sugar, especially late in the day
  • A short fuse, or emotions that arrive faster than they used to
  • Catching every illness that goes around
  • Dizziness on standing up quickly
  • Weight settling around the middle despite no change in habits

What Gets Measured

A cortisol pattern rather than a single reading, alongside DHEA, a full thyroid panel, sex hormones, vitamin D, B vitamins, magnesium and inflammatory markers. Chronic stress commonly suppresses the conversion of T4 to active T3, which is why burnout and hypothyroid symptoms overlap so completely.

How It Gets Treated

The plan works on the load and the reserve at the same time: correcting the nutrient deficiencies that stress depletes, supporting thyroid conversion where it has slowed, restoring sleep, and being honest about the inputs that are not going to change. Where the picture is significantly out of range, hormone and thyroid support are considered on their own merits.

Common Questions

Is adrenal fatigue a real diagnosis?

Adrenal fatigue is not a recognised medical diagnosis, and it is important to say so plainly. What is measurable is the cortisol pattern and its downstream effects on thyroid conversion, blood sugar and sex hormones, and those are what get tested and treated here.

Why am I exhausted all day and wide awake at night?

That pattern often reflects a disrupted cortisol rhythm, where the morning rise is blunted and the evening fall is delayed. Testing the pattern across the day shows it in a way a single blood draw cannot.

Can stress cause thyroid problems?

Prolonged stress can reduce the conversion of T4 into active T3 and raise reverse T3, which produces hypothyroid symptoms while TSH still reads normal. It is one of the clearest reasons to test the full panel rather than TSH alone.
