Fatigue is the single most common reason patients walk through the door, and the single most commonly dismissed. It is also one of the most investigable complaints in medicine, because almost everything that causes it leaves a fingerprint on a blood panel. The problem is rarely that the answer is hidden. It is that nobody ordered the test that would show it.
The panel goes wide on purpose: full thyroid including free T3 and reverse T3, sex hormones, cortisol pattern, ferritin and a complete iron study, vitamin D, B12 and folate, fasting glucose and insulin, a complete blood count, a metabolic panel, and inflammatory markers. Iron deficiency without anemia, low vitamin D and subclinical thyroid dysfunction are all common, all treatable, and all easy to miss on a basic screen.
Once the cause is identified the treatment is usually specific rather than general: correct the deficiency, support the thyroid, rebalance the hormones, address the inflammation. IV therapy and vitamin injections can help you feel functional while the underlying correction takes effect, but they are the bridge, not the plan.
At minimum a full thyroid panel with free T3 and reverse T3, ferritin and a full iron study, vitamin D, B12, fasting glucose and insulin, a complete blood count and inflammatory markers. Sex hormones and a cortisol pattern are worth adding where symptoms point that way.
Yes. Ferritin measures stored iron and can fall well before hemoglobin does, so fatigue from iron deficiency often appears while a standard complete blood count still reads as normal.
It can help you function while the underlying cause is being corrected, particularly where dehydration or nutrient depletion is part of the picture. It is not a substitute for finding out why the fatigue is there.
